The Iroquois Falls Storm of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League is recruiting billets for 2024-25, its sophomore season.
Billet coordinator Stéphanie Giguère-Bernier says the majority of the billet families are back, so she only needs a handful of new ones.
“And the ones that we did lose is just simply they’re either relocating or changes in the lives, pertaining to growing a business and having less time to focus on billets,” she explains.
Giguère-Bernier says it doesn’t take long once a player moves into your house, they also move into your heart.
A monthly billet fee covers food and other household expenses. You also get some team merchandise and two season tickets.
“What we’ve been seeing a lot the past season is that the homes did take advantage of those season tickets to cheer on their player,” Giguère-Bernier observes. “The players really appreciated it, seeing that their family was supporting them on and off the ice.”
There’s a lot more information in the audio of our interview with Stéphanie Giguère-Bernier below. You can also inquire at the Storm booth at the Sportsman Show this coming weekend.
