Celebrate Mother’s Day with Mom by learning ballet together

Learning some basic ballet steps is an unusual way to spend Mother’s Day with your Mom.

You can do just that on Sunday afternoon at Cochrane’s Ininew Friendship Centre.

Executive director Tyler Beaton admits it’s an unusual combination of cultures, with the National Ballet School doing a workshop open to anyone.

“At any stage in life, if you can build together with groups, bringing walks of life from infancy all the way to end of life, that’s what we do here at Ininew,” remarks Beaton, “and what a better program to collaborate with than the ballet school.”

He says it’s free, and opens with a lunch at 1:00pm.

“No dance experience needed. Just show up. Different forms of dance will be kind of talked about throughout that event. Just more sort of build that relationship, rather than focusing on your dance etiquette.”

In return, the ballet dancers will be shown the basics of indigenous dance.  Beaton says it’s all about community building between the two groups.
