Nature-themed mural for Iroquois Falls

Robin Edmunds has already painted several murals that can be seen around Iroquois Falls. The next one she’s doing will be installed on an exterior wall of the Lions Den, the building which also houses her studio.

The project for the Iroquois Falls Arts Council is called “Boreal Growth”. Edmunds consulted with an expert on local, wild edible plants. She says it’s a trend right now, sourcing food from the land.

“Because it’s trending and because I believe it’s such a good trend to continue on,” she notes, “I thought that was what we should paint on the side of the building.”

Starting at the end of the month, Edmunds will spend two weeks painting on panels in her studio, to be installed on the wall after that.

She will be mentored by longtime muralist Guy Wales of Brockville. One thing he’ll be helping with is his specialty, a 3D technique. “Because we want the mural to look like it’s really coming out of the wall,” says Edmunds.

She has a drawing of what she envisions for the mural. “I do, but we’re not sharing it.”

The project is being funded by the Ontario Arts Council.
