In Cochrane history this week, an update on a story for a couple months ago… and disappointment for a local group.
In February, we told you of the 1994 campaign to save the old municipal water tower.
Lisette deBlois led the Old Water Tower Preservation Society in an attempt to make the tower a tourist attraction, complete with an observatory.
But in late April that year, council moved the demolition date up by several months to the first three weeks of August. That didn’t give the Preservation Society enough time to get government money for a feasibility study.
That story was reported in the Cochrane Times. We got it from the Cochrane Public Library’s archives department.
