Science North indigenous exhibit at Gilles Gagnon Welcome Centre in Hearst

The Gilles Gagnon Welcome Centre in Hearst is hosting a Science North Indigenous exhibit until the end of the month. Hearst is the 13th stop on the tour that’s also included Cochrane and Timmins.

Acting Director of Education and Northern Programs Sarah Chisnell says the display is all about contributions the indigenous have made to science, technology, engineering and math in the past, present and the future.

“There’s hands on things, there’s things visitors can do as groups and work together to get those accomplished. And we also have school programs and if there are any teachers that want to visit they can book and have some free time for exhibit exploration but more structured school program.”

Chisnell says the exhibit was originally located in Montreal but moved to Sudbury.

“And so elements of the original exhibition were redesigned into this tour size format, but we specifically added some new content to focus on the contributions made by the populations in the indigenous people of Northern Ontario.”

The exhibit is open seven days a week but the times vary:

Monday and Tuesday – 10 am to 4 pm

Wednesday – 10 am to 6 pm.

Thursday – 10 am to 8 pm

Friday – 10 am to 6 pm

Saturday and Sunday – 10 am to 4 pm.
