Attending prom in Cochrane without breaking the bank for formal clothing

Not being able to afford the fancy clothes for graduation or prom – Grade 8 or Grade 12 – should not be a reason not to go.

The Cochrane Food Bank and the Métis Nation of Ontario have teamed up for a one-night pop-up shop, offering all the fancy duds at affordable prices – in some cases, even free.

Food bank manager Ardis Chedore says businesses around town are also offering make-up and other services.

“It’s definitely a good way to ensure that they can try on a dress, they can try on a suit and have something comfortable for their graduation,” she explains.

It’s open to any young person, Métis or not, and is on Friday, May 31st from 6:00 until 9:00 at the food bank.

“We are hoping just to have the people in the age range to attend,” Chedore notes. “We want the teens and the tweens to be able to come in and comfortably be with their peers, to go through the process of finding what is comfortable for them.”
