Anglicans honour Queen Elizabeth II

A Service of Evening Prayer honouring the late Queen Elizabeth II is this coming Sunday at the cathedral for the Anglican Church Diocese of Moosonee – St. Matthew’s in Timmins.

The interim priest at the cathedral, Rev. Judie Cooper, says the program of music and prayers will focus on Elizabeth’s role as supreme governor of the church.

”She has inspired many Anglicans here in Canada, throughout the world, with the way that she lived out her baptismal vows and her life of service,” remarks Rev. Cooper, “and that’s what we’ll be remembering on Sunday night.”

Cooper estimates that over her lifetime, the late Queen attended church services more than 4,900 times.

The service will also recognize King Charles III.

“Oh, absolutely,” says Cooper. “There will be prayers. There will be the singing of God Save the King, and that would please our late monarch very, very much to see that happen.”

The service begins at 7:00pm.  Cooper says it’s open to anyone of any faith, or without a faith. If you can’t be there, arrangements can be made for your to join on Zoom.
