Cochrane, 1994: Welcoming a councillor back; Board of Trade annual dinner

In this week’s backward glance at Cochrane history: the week that Nora Egan returned to town council.

As Cochrane Public Library archivist Ardis Proulx-Chedore reads from the Cochrane Times of April 9th, 1994, Egan was appointed to fill the vacancy left by the departure of another councillor.

“’Mrs. Egan has served on just about every committee in a very capable fashion,’ said Mayor David Hughes. ‘It is certainly with an air of eagerness that we welcome Mrs. Egan back.’”

BOARD TRADE’S 85th ANNUAL DINNER

The voice of the local business community – the Cochrane Board of Trade – has been around as long as the town has. The board celebrated its 85th annual dinner in April, 1994.

During the event at the Spinning Wheel Tavern and Restaurant, board president Dan Belisle presented a community service award to Norbord general manager Jack Phillips.

Public library archivist Ardis Proulx-Chedore reads from the report in the Cochrane Times.

“’The managers of Norbord have always sat on the board. If they weren’t here, we would be in a very sad situation,’” said Belisle.

The history of Cochrane is easy to explore at the library.  All you need is a library card.
