Cochrane Family Health Team is open during coronavirus pandemic

Let’s debunk a popular misconception in Cochrane.  The family health team in the rail town is not closed because of COVID-19.

Executive director Rodney Hoogenhoud says it’s open Monday to Thursday 9:00am to 5:00pm; 9:00am to 4:30pm on Friday.

The physicians are still dealing with 80 to 90 percent of their usual patient load.  The big difference is that patient contact begins on the telephone.

“At that point, if the physician feels that they need to see them in person because of a condition that might be occurring,” says Hoogenhoud, “then they will be entering into our office with an appointment.”

“It is to ensure that the patients are still getting the care they require, whether it be prescription renewals, whether it be follow-up meetings with the patients, but it’s just to eliminate the possibility of the transmission of the COVID-19 virus within our community and to ensure also that we’re not bringing that virus into our workplace.” Hoogenhoud adds it allows physical distancing among patients.

Papers for things like travel grants aren’t being allowed into the office right now, but forms that need a doctor’s signature can be transmitted electronically.
