Parks, playgrounds closed in Iroquois Falls for duration of COVID-19 pandemic

The town of Iroquois Falls is complying with the provincial COVID-19 state of emergency, making all parks and playgrounds in town off limits.

Mayor Pat Britton says people have to respect the rules.

“The OPP has increased their patrols for Iroquois Falls,” he says. “If they see anybody gathering more than five people, they will stop and issue a warning and if you fail to adhere to the warning, then they have the right to charge and the fines aren’t cheap.”

Signs are ready to go up at the playgrounds, once the snow melt allows it.

“The ones we could get at, we’ve taken the swings down, so there won’t be any swings for the kids to jump on and get carried away that way.  And it’s just to protect the public as usual.”

Britton says so far, so good for people keeping a safe social distance waiting to get into essential businesses that are still open.  Owners are doing a good job of limiting the number of people inside their stores, and monitoring the distance between customers when they’re inside.
