Car carrier burns on Hwy. 11

At least two of four pick-up trucks on the back of a car carrier were damaged Tuesday morning, when the transport caught fire on Hwy. 11 in Cochrane.

Fire Chief Richard Vallée says his crew put it out quickly, limiting damage.

“The car carrier was from the Toronto area,” he explains, “coming to deliver in the North, turned the corner on Hwy. 11 going west and then he heard a pop in the back.”

Initial investigation indicates the fire began underneath the trailer.

Vallée says a firefighter going to get his morning coffee fix at Tim Hortons shortly before 8:30am stopped to see if the driver needed help.

“He then proceeded from there to come directly to the fire hall and jump in a fire truck and go to the scene. So I think our response time this morning was one of the best we have on hand.”

The flames were quickly snuffed out with foam and water.
