Downtown Cochrane residents want help with parking issue in winter

Cochrane downtown residents are hopeful town council can help solve a parking dilemma in the winter.

Tenant Dan Lamothe made a presentation to council last week asking for a solution so residents are not charged $40 during snow removal.

He says the issues has been discussed a number of times including last year, and offered several solutions including a special parking pass.

“Try to have a sticker put on their vehicle to add to say they are on one side of the street one time depending on odd days, even days, we can try to do something like that,” he said.

Town staff says they’re waiting to hear back from a company regarding a proposal that would include a parking lot and charging stations for E-Vehicles.

Mayor Peter Politis says he understand the problem and adds the town is caught in a Catch 22.

The reality is that the downtown core is not the best place for residential apartments but what’s complicated in that regard is that we don’t have residential vacancies so that we need to use the downtown core apartments,” he said.
