School bus driver shortage improving in region

The supervisor for North East Tri Board School Bus Transportation says the driver shortage in the region is showing improvement. Ryan Hartling says some of the bus runs that have been out for months have started coming back.

“There are recruits being trained at this time for most operators,” he said. “It is definitely not as bad as it was in the past and a lot of the runs that have been out we found alternate transportation for families.”

He says bus operators are looking for drivers and calls it a rewarding career option.

Perhaps it’s something you want to get into just give them a call to find out what’s going on,” he said. “You don’t have to be a full time driver. They’re looking for a lot of casuals. If it is something you want to do here and there and you have some free time, it is definitely you should do something and reach out to your local operator.”
