Cadence walkers turn their sights westward to the Terry Fox monument

The Northern “can-do” attitude is evident in 20 or so people who live and work at Cochrane’s Cadence Residence.

They set out at the beginning of the month they call “Steptember” to log all the distance they walk every day – indoors or outdoors – with the aim of totalling the distance to Toronto by the end of the month.  They did that in the first two weeks.

Now, retirement home manager Tina Turner says they’re aiming to walk the distance from Cochrane to the Terry Fox monument near Thunder Bay by the original target date. The two distances are roughly the same.

“We want to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Terry Fox, so we’ve decided as a group that we will meet in Thunder Bay on September 30th,” explains Turner. “They inspire me and I look forward to tabulating the results on September 30th.”
