Coaches to be honoured at Pavilion

You see them on the bench, field or rink with your kids, yet you so often take them for granted.

This Friday at 7:00pm at the Commando Pavilion in Cochrane, the town is holding a coaches recognition and award ceremony.

Event coordinator Lynn Cotgrave says it’s in conjunction with National Coaches Week, and the coaching clinics running on Saturday and Sunday.

“We will be recognizing coaches from hockey, figure skating, softball, curling, basically every sport we’ll recognizing as well as the coaches from our local schools,” she says, as well from adult sports.

“Kids often break out of their shells in sports.  They develop social skills as well as their physical skills in sport and activity.  So I think it’s a really important thing to kind of recognize the coaches that are there to support kids.”

The event is a first for Cochrane. Cotgrave says the hope is that it becomes an annual thing.
