Artist exhibits paintings of ‘places I’ve lived and loved’

Local artist Lynn Ahern Mitchell has more than 30 of her paintings on exhibit in the gallery at the Cochrane Public Library all this month.

The title of the exhibit tells you exactly what the subjects are: “Ireland, Nevada, California: places I’ve lived and loved.”

They’re all oil paintings.  My Cochrane Now Dot Com asked Mitchell to describe her style.

“It’s not photo realism. It’s not abstract.  I basically paint from photographs,” she says.

“Maybe one or two in this exhibit is a plein air painting, which means you sit outside somewhere and you paint from outdoors.” That also means you paint what you’re looking at.  Mitchell says it’s a much quicker method.  Paintings she does indoors can take months.

The opening reception is Friday from 5:00pm until 7:00pm.  The exhibit is on until the 29th of this month.
