Leaders of Northern Ontario met in Thunder Bay to discuss the possible re-introduction of a species.

Mayors, leaders and industry stakeholders met in Thunder Bay this week to discuss the endangered species act and more specifically the caribou legislation.

Kapuskasing Mayor Alan Spacek was at the conference and went with concerns regarding the caribou legislation specifically.

Spacek says his concerns with the legislation were regarding the idea of re-introducing the species, rather than preserving it.

Spacek says there is scientific data that proves re-introducing any species to an area is a challenge.

At this time a decision has yet to be made on whether or not to reintroduce caribou in the North.
