Indigenous schools in Ontario may soon have the power to form their own school boards. That’s if a bill before Queen’s Park from Timmins-James Bay MPP Gilles Bisson is passed. Bisson says currently the federal government handles Indigenous schools but believe the province can do a better job of it. He says the schools could potentially have access to more resources, have more power at the bargaining table and still be able to teach in in their language, exactly like Francophone boards. The bill could potentially be passed by September.
