Iroquois Falls woman spearheads clothing drive for Empire Complex evacuees

As firefighters fought the flames at the Empire Complex in Timmins Saturday, and residents were relocated to the Bon-Air Motel, a woman an hour away started gathering clothing for them.

Sylvie Lajeunesse lives in Iroquois Falls.  She learned from her Mom – who just died in January – to give to people in need whenever you can.

She saw a Facebook post from a woman looking for clothes for her own Mom.

“That post just got me going because it was the perfect opportunity to honour my Mom,” Lajeunesse tells My Cochrane Now Dot Com. “All she was asking was for extra-large clothes for her Mom, and I’m like ‘wow!’.”

Lajeunesse went to Timmins that day with a bag of her own clothes.  She has more accumulating in her garage and will pick up in Iroquois Falls if anyone else wants to donate, then bring them to Timmins.

“It makes me happy, just to be able to help someone. And like I said, no effort and a bag of clothes, that’s nothing.”
