Band-aid solution while DJ at Storm games tries to get sound system upgrade

A lot of complaints are being voiced about the audio quality for music and announcements at Iroquois Falls Storm hockey games.

The DJ who mans the control board, Andrew Fleurie, is trying a temporary solution, pending what he hopes is an overhaul of the sound system at the Jus  Jordan Arena.

At Saturday’s game against Timmins, foam industrial earplugs will be available, while quantities last.

“I personally bought the box myself,” says Fleurie, “so I’m going to give these out for free, and if people want to continue, I’ll continue to buy them, but I don’t want it to come out of my own dollar.”

Fleurie agrees that your own noise-cancelling earphones would probably help, too.

But that’s all just a band-aid solution. Fleurie says the system is an outdated mess… and wasn’t considered when the Storm was moving in to the Igloo.

Fleurie knows the timing of asking the Town of Iroquois Falls to fix or replace the system is not good.  It just recently adopted its 2024 budget.

“I understand it definitely takes time,” he acknowledges, “so right now, I’m just trying to work with what we have.”

In social media discussion of the sound problem, a suggestion has been made that a community fundraiser might help raise money for the upgrade.
