It seems that snowmobiling season just began, and it’s already over.
Like so many others, trails from Temagami to Iroquois Falls and Timmins – OFSC District 14 – are officially closed. District president Gilbert Fortin Fortin says there’s no real chance they’ll reopen.
“In order to reopen the trails, well besides getting a lot of snow” he observes,” we would be needing a lot of cold weather, because we have too much marsh and waterworks that has unthawed now.”
“Unless you want to buy a lot of parts and make local dealers happy,” Fortin continues, “go ahead and wreck your machine, as long as it’s not on OFSC trails, because officially those trails are not available right now, and it would be kind of illegal to stay on there.”
Fortin takes solace in the eight weeks of sledding we did get this year. The record low is 2010, when there were only seven weeks.
