Who’s putting garbage in Porquis recycle bin?

Denis Charette has a message for whoever’s been putting food scraps and other garbage in the recycle bin in the parking lot of the Porquis Recreation Hall: Stop doing that.

Charette is treasurer and project coordinator for the Porquis Recreation Association.  He says garbage in a recycle bin is counterproductive to the concept of recycling.

“Now that that’s in there, everything has to go to the dump,” he notes.

It’s a mystery who’s doing it.  The Town of Iroquois Falls picks up garbage at homes in Porquis.

Charette says the rec association has six garbage bins next to the hall, across the parking lot from the recycle bin. He says they fill up fast after activities at the hall.

“We don’t want anybody putting their garbage in our bins, but we don’t want people putting garbage in the recycle bin.”

“We’re lucky that it’s wintertime,” he continues, “because if it was summer, then you’d be attracting the bears, the foxes, the coyotes and we’ve got a park for kids there, and it would be a danger for everybody.”
