Cochrane history: Second courtroom announced in March, 1984

We go back 40 years for this week’s Cochrane history feature,  and the announcement of a second courtroom.

In the March 28th, 1984 Northland Post, Peggie Fitzpatrick reports on Ontario Attorney-General Roy McMurtry making the announcement during a visit to Cochrane.

“The new facility will occupy the premises vacated by the Land Titles Office and will require extensive renovations.” the story notes. “‘I can’t say when the work will begin, but I can say it will be shortly,’ McMurtry said.”

McMurtry also pledged that during the political lifetime of the Bill Davis Conservative government, Cochrane would remain the judicial seat of the district, and it would not move to Timmins.

He was accompanied on his Cochrane visit by Cochrane North MPP René Piché.
