‘Heroes of Cochrane’ banners on display on Sixth Ave. for third straight year

From now until Remembrance Day, every light post on Sixth Ave. in Cochrane is flying a banner from the “Heroes of Cochrane” series.

They honour Cochranites who served in the military from the First World War until the present day.

It’s a project of the Lions Club, coordinated by Gerry Robichaud. The first ones appeared in 2021, when there were 30 banners.

“So far, we have over 70,” Robichaud notes. “We have 28 that can go up every year, so now they’re on a rotation basis.”

The Lions will approach the ONR about using the poles on its property.

If part of your family has a military background, Robichaud wants to hear from you, especially if you have a photo.

“That’s one of the things that I insisted on,” was to try to get a picture of them in uniform if possible and a bit of information as far as what they did, where they served, you know, a bit of information.”

You can contact Robichaud at 613-608-3025 or [email protected].

The audio of our conversation features a lot of names.
