Cochrane history: Apple Day, 1951

This week’s Cochrane history feature stays in October, 1951, with a Northland Post report of Cubs and Scouts having their annual Apple Day. This excerpt from that report mentions that tthey disposed of 22 hampers of apples.

“Forty Scouts and Cubs were on the job, this number including some new ‘chums’, whose task it was to polish the apples at HQ, and some of the older boys who served as despatch riders.”

Another excerpt says the Cubs and Scouts sold 22 hampers of apples.

“First prize for the best decorated baskets went to Teddy Howard and Bernard Kinghorn, Scouts; second to George Allen and Ray Pawson, Cubs.”

Thanks, as always, to the Cochrane Public Library for allowing us to pick through its archives for our weekly feature.
