Iroquois Falls native needs a living liver donor sooner than later to save his life

Thirty-two-year-old Mitch Proulx has a lot to live for especially his partner, Carolyn Mercer and their eleven-month-old son Hudson.

But without a liver transplant sooner than later, he won’t be alive for anything.

Although the Iroquois Falls native now living in Ottawa was never a problem drinker, his liver was badly damaged by alcohol and doesn’t do its job filtering toxins from the body.

A living donor is Proulx’s best bet.  You could step forward and say “I want to donate part of my liver to Mitch Proulx.”

”Everything’s listed on the website, mitchproulx.com,” he notes, “and we have a secure form. We have to collect some things like height, weight and medical history.”

That’s the first step towards determining suitability. There’s much more detail in our 17-minute interview.

The donor would give up part of their liver.  Amazing, it regenerates in between four and six weeks.

Mercer says the result for the recipient is night and day.

“We’ve heard people that have had it. It’s like they’re a new person,” she states.

“All those things they suffer disappear immediately,” Proulx chimes in.

“Yeah, exactly,” his partner adds.
