No new Zamboni: Cochrane council votes no

A plan to buy a new Zamboni has been put on ice in Cochrane.

Town council has voted strongly against buying a new ice resurfacer for more than 157-thousand dollars.  The model in question is powered by lithium ion batteries that would quickly recharge between resurfacings.

But four out of five council members objected, citing more pressing budget matters, such as roads and other infrastructure.

So the two Olympia machines will continue in use.  The principal one of those is a 2012 model, near the end of its life and needing a lot of maintenance.

The recorded vote was four councillors against, and only Mayor Denis Clement in favour of buying the new machine.
