RAIL WORKERS LOCKED OUT

Beginning on Remembrance Day, a lock out at the rail yard has led to a labor protest on Railway Street. Darrin Axcell, speaking on behalf of the protesting UNIFOR workers, says the problem is three-fold. Firstly, he says the rail workers, mechanics and support staff have been without a contract for more than two years. Secondly, he says wages and benefits are being threatened. Thirdly, he says the company is talking about bringing in alternative labor to reduce costs. Axcell is uncertain when or how the matter will be resolved. More on this story once the ONTC has had an opportunity to respond.
