Meanwhile the New York Mets are the National League champions after sweeping the Chicago Cubs four straight with an 8-3 win yesterday. The Mets will now face the winner of the Toronto/Kansas City series for next week’s World Series. The Edmonton Oilers won their straight NHL game with a 3-1 win over Detroit. The other Canadian team in action was Toronto and the Leafs lost to Buffalo 2-1 in a shootout.
