Dipping into local history to examine initial moves towards a swimming complex

We’re plunging in to Cochrane history this week with a look at the steering committee formed in 1994… to investigate building a swimming pool complex in the Rail Town.

The committee was set up by the Cochrane and Area Community Development Corporation.

Cochrane Public Library archivist Ardis Proulx-Chedore reads from the article on the front page of the Cochrane Times’ April 2nd issue.

“’The CDC is looking to build partnerships, work towards a common goal,’ said CDC member Rhéal Cousineau. “If we don’t have dreams we won’t achieve this. The community seems to be behind this is a big way.”

The initial cost estimate on the pool complex was four- or five-million dollars.

Cousineau  said the committee could approach all the local organizations for support.

“If 12 people work at it very hard with 52 organizations in town, there’s no end to what we can achieve,” he’s quoted saying.

Cochrane’s history is awaiting your discovery in the archives at the public library.
