The Porcupine Health Unit wants to educate residents on safe drinking habits. The local health unit’s annual report outlined alcohol abuse and mental health as key concerns. Joanne Bennet is a public health nurse with the unit; she hosted a ‘Pour Challenge’ looking at how much alcohol people are drinking per serving. She says only two of the people tested were able to correctly estimate proper drink quantities. The Porcupine Health Unit works locally in Cochrane, Kapuskasing and Hearst among other communities in the Northeast.
