Grandfather takes the Great Cycle Challenge in memory of grandson

It’s for a very personal reason that Paul Proulx of Iroquois Falls spent a big part of August on his bicycle.

He was participating in the Great Cycle Challenge for the Sick Kids Foundation, in memory of his grandson, Jasmin Bérubé.  Jasmin was only two when he died of leukemia.

“I was going to do 300 km and trying to raise $2,000,” says Proulx. “I did 320 km and raised just under three-thousand.”

Also on Team Jasmin this year were Jasmin’s mom, Julie Proulx; his uncle and a family friend.

Together, they logged more than 2,000 km and raised more than $10,000.

Sixty-two-year-old Proulx says he’ll be back every year, as long as he is able.

“I call it making new memories with my grandson. It’s something that I do with him in mind,” he explains. “It’s nice to know that you’re working towards making sure no other family has to deal with this.”
