Back to Scouting basics and in-person meetings for Cochrane Scouts

The 1st Cochrane Scouts have taken their motto “Be Prepared” to heart, to resume activities for boys and girls from five to 17.

Group Commissioner Crystal Burkholder says Scout activities were forced into the virtual world by the pandemic.  Now, Scouts Canada has issued guidelines for getting back to face-to-face, beginning in September.

“So we’re going to be doing outdoor meetings and then probably after like ten or 12 weeks, and if we have like the second wave hits or not will depend if we have to stay outdoor meetings or if we can resume to indoor meetings,” says Burkholder. The worst case scenario would be back to virtual.

She also notes that one of the main focusses of the Scouting movement is getting kids outdoors.

“So we’ll be doing some games, some survival skills, fire building, Scout crafts, so probably cutting trees down and making like bridges or structures kind of thing with them.”

Burkholder says there are no fees to pay for the session that runs until December, and kids from Iroquois Falls are welcome to join.

More information is available on the 1st Cochrane Scouts Facebook page.
