Mayor welcomes Stage 3, despite ongoing ‘tremendous number of challenges’

The mayor of Cochrane is welcoming with open arms, the move into Stage Three of COVID-19 recovery.

Denis Clement says it’s an opportunity for businesses and residents to return to some form of normal, even among what he calls “a tremendous amount of challenges”.

While more travel could mean more cases, the mayor is optimistic the situation will remain under control.

“Especially the people here in Cochrane who in the past month or month and a half have followed most of the instructions,” he remarks.  “Most people are very cautious, they’ve been very, very aware of social distancing.  As I say, I’m optimistic that we will move forward.”

Mayor Clement notes that face masks have also come into broader use.

“That’ll continue,” he says. “It is the new normal and I think we’ll be in this situation for many, many more months to come.”

Clement adds that he’s glad to see crowd size restrictions being eased, allowing for more activities, especially outdoors.  And he looks forward to getting the junior-A Crunch hockey team back up and skating in the fall.
