Cochrane history: Library building carries name of former Mayor Donald Génier

We close the book on our look at the history of the Cochrane Public Library this week, with memories of the building’s official name.

On January 28th, 2011, it was dedicated to Donald Génier.  A dentist for 35 years, Dr. Génier was a town councillor for one term, then mayor from 1997 to 2003.

He’s credited with being the go-between for the town with Glackmeyer Township, to secure the provincial funding for the new building on Fourth St.

Donald Génier died in December, 2012 at the age of 73.
