New garbage truck and bins go into use in Iroquois Falls August 4

Iroquois Falls is adopting the latest technology in home garbage pick-up.

New bins are being delivered to every home this month and next.  Town councillor Darcy Cybolsky says you can start using it right away, but automated pick-up doesn’t begin until August 4th.

“So there’s an automated tipping arm on the new garbage truck that we have,” he explains. “So they pull up and then the arm comes out and grabs it and then tosses it into the back.”

The bin and the method of pick-up are the same as in Timmins.  The bin has wheels to make it easier to get it to the curb.

You can ask for a smaller bin. Cybolsky says the standard size has a 240-litre capacity.

“You could fit quite a few garbage bags in the bin,” he remarks.  “I haven’t used it yet.  I just got it delivered this week.  But we have a family of six.  We’ll use probably half of the capacity. We produce about two bags a week.”

The bin stays with the house when you move.  And if yours gets damaged and the town can prove it’s your fault, you have to pay for a new one. Otherwise, you get the replacement for free, too.
