The diabetes program at each of the hospitals in Iroquois Falls, Matheson and Cochrane is hosting grocery store tours this month.
Diabetes educator Erica Arsenault says they’ll be at Freshmart in Matheson at 10:00am on November 12th; the 18th at Valumart in Cochrane between 4:00 and 5:00pm; and at the Valumart in the Falls on the 21st between 11:00am and noon..
“We’re going to go through the aisles, do some label reading, teach people how to make healthy choices that fit within their lifestyle and work for them,” says Arsenault. “We know people are very busy, so we want to make sure that even those who are on the run can make healthy choices that fit within their lifestyle.
And then on World Diabetes Day, Thursday, November 14th, simultaneous works are being held in each of the three communities.
“We are holding them at noon,” according to Arsenault. “Just show up and then everyone will go on a walk. We’re promoting physical activity for treatment of diabetes, but also prevention of diabetes.”
