Walk for Special Olympics June 17 in Cochrane

Detachment members at Cochrane OPP are organizing and participating in a Special Olympics torch walk on Monday, June 17th.

Constable Kristen Boulanger says it begins at 10:30am at Giant Tiger on Sixth Avenue.

“Officers as well as the residents at Community Living will be participating,” she says, “and then other volunteers or the community, whoever wants to join in the walk can join and walk the route with us.”

The walk will head to Railway Street, through the roundabout onto Second Street, ending at ValuMart for a fundraising barbecue between 11:00am and 1:00pm.

Boulanger says you can also donate to Special Olympics along the route, or at the detachment.

Police everywhere are associated with Special Olympics.  Boulanger says she has been since before she joined the force.  She volunteered with Special Olympics powerlifters in Timmins.

“We met every week and helped train those athletes and it was rewarding going and seeing their progress and how much they enjoyed it.”
