Too many non-recyclables going into blue bins in Cochrane

The infrastructure services department in Cochrane finds itself “re-informing” residents about how the blue bin recycling program works.

“We’ve been noticing higher than usual contamination level,” reports infrastructure services director Shane Skinner. “That’s just people putting stuff in that is not technically recyclable.”

Because the town sells its recyclables, items that can’t be recycled cost it money for extra processing and disposal in a landfill.

“And we don’t want that to the point of contaminating some valuable recyclables,” Skinner adds. “But at the same time,  it also costs the taxpayers and residents of the Town of Cochrane additional money in the recycling program.”

Skinner asks that you contact his department to verify whether something is recyclable. You can phone 705-272-5064 or go to this link.
