Breathing is important to everyone and the Timmins and District Hospital is looking to make that easier for patients.
The hospital is looking to replace five of its old ventilators with new ones because they aren’t up to code anymore. Respiratory Therapist Susan Boisvert says these machines help people breathe when they can’t on their own because of a surgery or injury.
Boisvert says this life-saving machine gets used a lot at the TADH.Â
The hospital says each new machine costs about $45,000. The hospital will be raising funds to go towards the new ventilators at its 9th annual Charity Golf Classic on August 11th. The 80’s themed event will take place at Spruce Needles Golf Club and feature a mixed tournament, silent auction and dinner. The tournament costs $500 per team.
Hospital staff say they are hoping to raise enough money to buy at least two, but hopefully three new machines at this event. Manager of Cardiopulmonary and Imaging Informatics Guy Guindon says at this time the hospital doesn’t have the money or a plan to raise enough money to replace whatever is left after the tournament.Â
