Cochrane’s Chimo is being taken down today.
The polar bear that has been standing in the centre of town for almost 50 years is being replaced this summer. The mascot will be taken down today and replaced by the biggest hand-carved bear in the world. The Cochrane Board of Trade says the new bear came from British Columbia and is expected to go up sometime this summer. It says that the town has also raised about 80 per cent of the funds needed to pay for the project.
