You are being reminded to be safe during hunting season by the OPP.

The James Bay Detachment is reminding residents in Cochrane to follow the Hunting Safety Rules in order to remain out of harm’s way.

OPP Media Officer Stephanie Belec says all hunters must wear solid orange hunter clothing, and also an orange head cover during gun seasons for deer, moose, and elk.

Belec reminds hunters that it is illegal to shoot from a vehicle or to discharge your firearm in public near a roadway.

She also is reminding hunters of some general safety tips such as tell someone always where you will be hunting and returning, know your weather conditions and always carry a survival kit.

Belec says to report any illegal or unsafe hunting activity please call the MNRF Tips line, your local police or crime stoppers.
