Cochrane Mayor Peter Politis says the Species At Risk guide is a huge threat to the economy right across the north, putting some 8000 jobs on the line and threatening to utterly destroy the forest industry. Politis says Premiere Wynne and her government are intensively atavistic and are basing the SAR protocol on their extremist ideology, not on science. The mayor says if the full weight of SAR were to descend on Cochrane, the economic impact would be severe.
Politis went on to say he respects the opinions of those who disagree with northern forestry, but he says people need to understand that northerners are among the most environmentally responsible individuals in the world.
