(MLB)  Toronto Blue Jays starter Nick Tepesch became the sixth pitcher in franchise history to allow three homer runs in his debut as the New York Yankees went on to an 11-5 victory over Toronto last night. Tepesch was filling in for the injured Cesar Valdez who in turn was filling in for the injured Aaron Sanchez. Jose Bautista hit his 18th homer of the season in the loss.

(Tennis)  It was a short Rogers Cup for Milos Raonic.  Raonic, seeded sixth, lost to unseeded Adrian Mannarino in his opening match last night. On the plus side Canadian teenager Denis Shapovalov (shapa-vo-lov) downed former U.S. Open champion Juan Martin del Potro in their second round match, Shapovalov now moves on to meet Rafael Nadal in round three.

(NFL)  In NFL pre-season play last night the Carolina Panthers beat the Houston Texans 27-17.
