A feasibility study has begun to look at the development of a processing plant for Kap Minerals at the former Agrium mine site southwest of Kapuskasing. Company president Jeff Ivan says the study will explore the process design, environmental issues, permitting and plant requirements. He adds that it’s an important step in the company’s progress.
“That hopefully we should have completed by next year at this time the feasibility and plant design. And that will bring us to a conclusion of which rare earths and which critical minerals are economically important.
Ivan says what makes the Kap project unique is that it’s located on a previous mine site where much of the required roads, rail, power and natural gas is already in place or readily available. He adds that approximately 14.7 million tons of previous mine materials are located on the surface.
Jeff Ivan says the company doesn’t want to be known for producing raw materials and shipping it elsewhere; it wants to do more.
“We’re very much interested in turning these critical minerals into finished products that value to Kapuskasing, Ontario and Canada.”
