Haileybury School of Mines gets financial support from RBC

Northern College’s Haileybury School of Mines revitalization project has been given $150,000 by the RBC Foundation.

As he presented a replica of an e-transfer receipt, the bank’s regional vice-president, Scott Simon, said strengthening communities is at the heart of RBC’s purpose, helping clients thrive and communities prosper.

“RBC’s approach to community investment is aimed at helping to address some of society’s most pressing challenges,” he told a gathering at Northern’s Timmins campus, “including equipping people with the skills for thriving in our future.”

He went on to say that it will help to grow in-demand skills, create access to work experience and advance work readiness.

“The world of work continues to transform, and we need to collaborate with partners to help equip community members to keep pace. Real change happens when we work hand-in-hand with community organizations that have the insight, ideas and means to drive progress.”

Simon says a recent RBC report shows that today, Canada supplies about 2% of the world’s minerals and by 2040, that could rise to 14%.
