‘Tis the season for flu and COVID-19 shots.
Public clinics for that purpose are opening on Monday across the Northeastern Public Health catchment area.
Community immunization manager Kassandra Plante confirms that although COVID is not at a pandemic level anymore, the virus is continuously circulating.
“We do have a vaccine that can help prevent serious illness into our community,” she says, “and so it’s an opportunity for those who can be vaccinated to get the vaccine.”
This year’s flu vaccine protects against three different strains.
“I can also share that we are seeing an earlier season of influenza than what we’re used to,” notes Plante. “Now really is the time for everyone to get in to their local health unit, pharmacy or even health care providers to get those vaccines.”

Plante says there’s no guarantee you won’t get sick, but being immunized can reduce the severity of the illness.
