The sod has been turned at Devonshire Park in Iroquois Falls to launch a total revamp of the playground. It’s now known as Discovery Park, because Discovery Mining has put up a million dollars for the work.
The company’s communications director, Adria Bicknell says the community seems most excited about the splash pad being built.
“So there’s going to be accessible water play available, as well as park facilities and trails within the area that’s to be used to fill up the park,” she points out.
All the facilities will be accessible.
Bicknell says her company’s participation recognizes the significant number of commuter employees who live in the Falls. She cites CEO Tony Makuch saying success is not just about what you find with a mining drill.
“What really builds our success is the people, and we want to support the communities where our people live and work, but more broadly, those communities that support us in everything that we do as well.”
Bicknell is hopeful that construction will be finished in time for a ribbon cutting next summer.
