In about two months, junior hockey players will be back in Iroquois Falls to play for the Storm, and the team needs billet families to take them in.
Billet coordinator Jane Reinders says right now, the teams needs eleven beds in caring billet homes. The player pays a monthly fee.
“There’s nothing quite like having a player come into your home and watching them change and grow eventually leaving your home,” Reinders notes, “but seeing them leave as more confident young men and knowing that you played a part in that.”
Reinders speaks from experience. She has billeted the past two seasons.
“The team is asking a lot whenever they ask people to become a billet family but what you get back from billeting is so much more than what you put in: friendships, the memories that you make, the connections that you make with the team. It’s really just something special that you can’t get anywhere else.”
Prospective billet parents need a vulnerable sector check from police and there will be a home visit.
A billet family doesn’t have to be a traditional nuclear family of Mom, Dad and kids.
There’s an information session next Mondayat 6:30pm
