The MICS Health Care Services Foundation has received $25,000 for the surgical department at Cochrane’s Lady Minto Hospital.
Foundation coordinator Ainsley Lougheed says it’s from the estate of Dr. Benjamin Thompson, who pioneered surgery there in the late 1950s and early 60s.
“In addition to helping create our surgical department, he also went on to create the surgical department in Kincardine as well,” she notes. “So he’s had quite a remarkable career.”
Dr. Thompson’s children made the donation online.
“They went to the MICs Foundation website and under it, there’s a tab on how to donate, and this particular donation was made in bequeathal,” says Lougheed.
Dr. Thompson died last November.
